EA Madden Kick-off Classic is back with a 100k prize pool and great gameplay
Madden Kickoff Classic starts the Madden Champion Series for Madden 25. EA Sports brought back this tournament format this year. What makes it exciting is that players don’t play in the popular game mode Ultimate Team but are playing with the regular NFL teams. 8 Competitors play in single elimination games for a prize pool of 100k USD.
The participants were a mix of known pros like Jonbeast, Dcroft, Kiv, Abram, DavidT and up and coming players like Clamp, MoneyMeech and JMH.
Highlights from the first Madden NFL 25 MCS Tournament
The Madden Kickoff Classic had many exciting moments and great gameplay. If you missed it, we have a recap ready for you.
Nail-Biter in the Quarterfinals
The featured game between tournament favorite JonBeast (Jacksonville Jaguars) and last year’s Rookie of the Year Abram (New York Jets) had a dramatic ending. JonBeast was able to get into his groove first and multiple Touchdown passes from Trevor Lawrence to Christian Kirk gave him a 31:17 lead at halftime, which he could even increase to a 24-point lead. Then out of nowhere, Abram turned on the jets (yes, he did it with the Jets 😂). Touchdown after Touchdown brought the game back to 41:38 with under a minute to play and on top of that he recovered an Onside kick. Would Jonbeast and the Jaguars give this sure win away? The third turnover from the Jets answered that question and the No.1 seed was able to inch out the win to move on to the semi-finals.
Another very close game happened between Dcroft (Kansas City Chiefs) and MoneyMeech (Baltimore Ravens) in the second quarter final. The game went back and forth. The lead nearly changed after every possession. Dcroft went a lot through the air whereas it was “Derek Henry Time” pretty often for MoneyMeech. The Ravens game plan was to get the lead with 2-point conversions, which they attempted after almost every TD. 16 seconds on the clock, the scoreboard showed 37:34 for the Ravens. Dcroft had the ball on the 14 yard line with 4th and 10. Everybody was preparing to go into overtime but the computer science major out of Seattle surprised everyone and went for it. The ballsy call was not rewarded and MoneyMeech moved on to the semi-finals.
The Rookie Clash in the third match between JMH (Cincinnati Bengals) and Clamp (New York Jets) ended with a 35:21 win by the Bengals. It was the first live event for both players and Clamp got the better start into the game with a rushing TD. But JMH recovered quickly and led 21:14 at the Halftime. An 80 yard TD pass from Burrow to Chase and a late interception sealed the game for the young Rookie from Kentucky.
The fourth quarter-final was between David T (Cincinnati Bengals) and Kiv (New York Jets), the player with the most wins in MCS history. Kiv got the lead early with a TD pass from Aaron Rodgers and went on to win the game 45:33. DavidT found no way to stop the Jets.
Veteran vs. veteran and rookie vs. rookie in the semi-finals
The first semi-final was between 17- year old JMH (Kansas City Chiefs) and MoneyMeech (New York Jets). A very heated game with a lot of trash talking going on. Money Meech was able to convert a couple of important 4th downs but still trailed 21:14 at Halftime.
The second half went back-and-forth with both players scoring Touchdowns. The big breaking point was an interception by the Jets in the 4th quarter. MoneyMeech was then able to manage the clock and convert the Field Goal in the last seconds to pave his way into the finals. In the post-match interview, MoneyMeech had his opinion on the way JMH behaved “I felt like he was a little too animated for the moment. You got to always be calm, cool and collected”. Let’s see if he manages to do that against one of the seasoned pros in the finals.

Kiv (New York Jets) and Jonbeast (Jacksonville Jaguars), probably the most known player in the Top 8 of the Madden Kickoff Classic, meet in the second semi-final. For a lot of experts, this should have been the final. And they did not disappoint with an entertaining first half with a lot of points on the board. 5 Touchdowns, 3 Field Goals, 1 Fumble Recovery for 6 points and an Interception summarize the eventful first part of the game.
Second half continued with a lot of scoring. Jonbeast scored his second touchdown with the defense and continued to utilize the speed and the frame of Brian Thomas Jr. (4 Touchdowns). Still Kiv was able to keep it close and with 9 seconds to go the score was 48:52. 4th and Goal for the Jets. A touchdown would give him a ticket to the finals. But Aaron Rodgers was not able to find his man and threw an interception to end the game. After the game JonBeast said this about the last seconds of the game “I’m not gonna lie, I was trying to call a timeout. When he did the motion, I’m like, I haven’t got the right defense on the field”. Fortunately for him, it still turned out fine.

Can the big favourite get his 3rd belt?
So the big final of the Madden Kickoff Classic was JonBeast (Kansas City Chiefs) against MoneyMeech (Baltimore Ravens). A typical David against Goliath match-up. Will the upset happen?
Well, JonBeast did all he could to crush MoneyMeeches dream early. He went up 24 points. Especially the speed of Xavier Worthy was a big factor in the dominant performance of JonBeast. The Ravens had 2 costly turnovers and only managed to score in the last seconds of the first half to make it 24:6. Was that the slight hope the former college baseball player out of Massachusetts needed?
The second half started well for MoneyMeech with a Touchdown by Derek Henry. But after that, JonBeast took over and dominated the rest of the game. The speedy Wide Receivers of the Chiefs were just too much for the Ravens’ defense. 38:14 was the score in the end. Congratulations to JonBeast for winning the first tournament of the season.
“After I beat Kiv I felt like I’m going to win the tournament” said the newly crowned winner of the Madden Classic Kickoff Tournament.
Game highlights:
- 38 yards to Worthy (7:0)
- Interception by the Chiefs
- 18 yards to Kelce (14:0)
- FG Butker (17:0)
- Fumble Recovery by the Chiefs
- 85 yards to Worthy (24:0)
- 32 yards to Bateman + Failed 2-point conversion (24:6) Halftime
- 14 yards to Henry + 2-point conversion with a rush by Jackson (24:14)
- 56 yards to Brown (31:14)
- 15 yards to Worthy (38:14)
- Interception by the Chiefs End of Game
